Last weekend, I was excited to be attending London's MCM Comic Con for the very first time as a representative of my workplace. Having always wanted to go but unsure of what to expect, I thought I'd share with you some highlights from my day. Here's a look...

For those of you not already aware, MCM Comic Con is an event held around the country and is the UK's biggest modern pop culture event. The London convention is held yearly at The Excel, at Royal Victoria, and has always been something I'd always wanted to attend but I'd just never gotten around to. Jam packed with props from hit TV shows and movies, exhibitor and merchandise stalls and exclusives from the gaming and film world, it really is something that needs to be seen to be believed. Having had a chat with a few longterm attendees of the event, it seems that people often come from far and wide to visit for the day or weekend - often dressed up in elaborate costumes and cosplay. 

Having arrived early that morning, I was pretty overwhelmed by the sheer size of it all as I made my way in to the main building. I was also pretty pleased to beat the queues and have free reign of the event although this would soon change as the day went on and by Saturday, it was completely sold out. Featuring literally hundreds of stalls and exhibits, it was so much fun to look around and have a look at all the weird and wonderful bits of memorabilia and merchandise. I couldn't get over some of the amazing outfits though, I lost count of how many Rick and Mortys there were although this one was certainly my favourite of the day (pictured above). 

Since I was attending the event with work, Jack unfortunately wasn't able to come too but I set out to find him a present and stumbled across these amazing red velvet cupcakes from Amazing Cake Co. (pictured above). The detailing on each hand-painted cake was incredible and, naturally, I had to take some home. Just look at the 3D hat on Ash and the makeup on Princess Peach! I bet the queue for these guys on Saturday was unreal but totally worth it. Most impressive was that I managed to get them home in one piece.

One thing which really struck me from the event (besides the incredible efforts people go to when creating their costumes) was the atmosphere.  Everyone is so friendly and chatty; there is certainly no air of judgement. It was really lovely to be in a place with so many like-minded, creative people. One other thing I will say, however, is that the food inside the event itself is all junk food and sweets - hence my hotdog. So if you're wanting something more healthy, you may wish to eat outside or bring something in with you (if that's allowed).

Film Event: Star Wars Identities at the O2 Arena

Last week, Jack decided to give me a pre-birthday surprise by inviting two of my best friends down for the weekend and taking us to see Star Wars Identities at the O2 Arena in London. Naturally, I bloody loved it and couldn't wait to share it with you all. Here's a look...

Featuring a collection of 200 original Star Wars props, models, costumes and artworks, Star Wars Identities allows fans to create their own characters, complete with personality traits. Made up of a series of interactive features and sensors, visitors can build their own personalised character from one of 16 species. 

We made our way into the exhibit where we given a headset and wristband which would allow us to track our journey. Starting with species, you're taken through the history of the franchise - going on to select genes and family tree, culture, mentors, friends, events, occupation, personality, and finally values and attire. Along the way, of course, is a whole range of incredible and original props used in the films.

Thankfully, we visited early on a Friday morning so the exhibit was our oyster. We got to have a good look at everything with no interruption and, due to it being so quiet, we managed to get in and out in just over an hour. However,  I imagine it would pretty darn busy on a weekend. At a price per ticket of £18.50 - £22.00, I personally think Star Wars Identities is certainly worth the visit to genuine fans although it's not quite as extensive as I imagined it to be. That said, I particularly loved the concept art and seeing the early development of the characters. Who knew that Yoda started out as a garden gnome? In terms of going as a non-fan, I feel a lot of it might be a little bit lost but the exhibit would make for an amazing treat for kids and young Padawans. I particularly liked that the majority of the mannequins were bringing some serious sass.

Once you've completed the journey, you're inviting to scan in your wrist band to reveal your true Star Wars identity on the big screen. As you can see, myself, Ash, Vanessa and Jack all went for very different paths but were pleased with our choices. Overall, we had a great hour exploring the exhibit and I'm so glad to have finally seen it for myself. In other words, Jack did very well in organising this for my surprise Birthday day out. Huge thanks to him and of course Ash and Vanessa for coming to visit me for the weekend.

Last week, I was incredibly fortunate to attend the Global Premiere for Alien: Covenant at ODEON's Leicester Square in London. Before heading in to preview the new film, I had a prime spot on the green carpet and managed to snap some photos of the stars including Michael Fassbender and director, Ridley Scott. Here's a closer look...

Held at the famous ODEON Leicester Square cinema in London, hundreds of die hard Alien fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the green carpet. Being the official Global Premiere, it was amazing to see that people had travelled from around the world to be there. With the film's director, Sir Ridley Scott and majority of the cast in attendance, the night had an incredible atmosphere and I felt very privileged to have a prime spot. The skies may have been grey but that certainly did not kill the buzz. 

It's safe to say that no expense was spared in the preparation of this premiere. The place looked amazing with all the alien displays and props dotted around everywhere. The cast made their way through the carpet and down to the stage where they were interviewed by Edith Bowman (pictured above). With all the interviews done and dusted, it was finally time to take our seats inside. I've always loved visiting ODEON Leicester Square - not only does it have funky leopard print seats but it really feels like a special occasion whenever I've been there and always makes for a great premiere location. 

Finally, it was time to see it. Having taken our seats, the cast came on with Edith Bowman to introduce the film and say a few words. Unfortunately the film is under embargo until the 8th May but, fear not, I will be sharing my thoughts very soon! All I can say is that it's well worth making yourself familiar with the previous films before giving it a watch to truly get the full experience.
