Advantages
GMO’s require less chemicals to thrive hence the impact on environment is less. Crops are modified to add more resistance to diseases that would even kill off the crops. Main goal of GMO crops is to provide a stable and efficient way to sustain enough crops to feed the ever growing population. Genes of the crop can be altered for longer storage, nutritional value and flavor along with resistance to insects and disease. More yields from GMO crops make the prices affordable.
Disadvantages
Due to cross contamination, pollen from GMO crops is also contaminated and spoils grass or weed of other plants. Ever since the introduction of GMO foods, the number one common side effect of consuming GMO is allergic reaction. This allergic reaction happens when a certain protein / allergen present in GM crop enters the body and stimulates an immune response. When you eat GMO foods Antibiotic properties present in GMO crops are left in your body and make many antibiotics less effective.
Before you apply this agriculture method, it is important to study the pros and cons of it in detail, which will help you to determine if GMOs is the right option.
