Taking over Peckham's Bussey Building for the festive season is
Winter Film Club. Showcasing some Christmas classics (and some modern masterpieces too), myself and Jack were invited along to check it out. Here's a little look at our evening...

Underground Film Club comes a new cinematic experience at the Bussey Building in Peckham. Located just inside the main entrance,
Winter Film Club* is welcoming the Christmas cheer by hosting a series of seasonal screenings including
Home Alone (1990),
Elf (2003) and
Love Actually (2003). Besides some fantastic Christmas films, they're also showing some recent releases including Louis Theroux's
My Scientology Movie (John Dower, 2015)
and Disney's
Finding Dory (Andrew Stanton, 2016). Having spotted
True Romance (Tony Scott, 1993) on their program, we were keen to get along for the first week of the event to see what all the fuss is about.
Unlike in the Summer, there is no activities as such before the film but, before grabbing yourself a deckchair, you can hang out upstairs and enjoy the bar. One thing I really liked about the venue in particular (besides the all the pretty little tea lights) was the vintage film-themed decor. The table was decorated with film-reel canisters and the walls were decorated with projections and old film stills.
With a few minutes to go before the film started, we grabbed ourselves some sweets, popcorn, a few blankets and our headphones and took to our seats. The best thing about having headphones is that you don't have to put up with anyone else's noise and you can still hear what's going on, even if you nip to the loo during the film.
Overall, I really enjoyed our evening although I am certainly missing the views from Rooftop Cinema. One thing I will point out is that, whilst it is inside and there are blankets available, it's definitely worth wrapping up warm. I did find that by the end of the screening and, especially on my way home, the temperatures had dropped dramatically and so make sure you dress for the cold just in case. As the weeks go on, I can definitely see this getting booked up and busy quickly so maybe make sure to arrive around 20 minutes before your screening starts.
