Difference between Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers

S.No

Organic Fertilizers
Inorganic Fertilizers
1
Organic Fertilizers (animal wastes and plant residues) must be broken into inorganic forms before plant absorbs the nutrients required for growth and reproduction
Inorganic fertilizers are sometimes, completely, or at least partially comprised of man-made materials.
2
Organic fertilizers are considered slow release nutrients because it takes longer for soil microbes to release the nutrients so plant can absorb them
Inorganic fertilizers have high concentration of nutrients and readily available for plant uptake. Improvement occurs in days.
3
Since it release nutrients slowly over fertilizer can be avoided
Since the nutrients are readily available, over fertilization can happen which not only kill the plants but also upset the entire Eco system
4
No risk of toxic build-ups of chemicals and salts that can be deadly to plants
Repeated application lead to toxic build up of chemicals which make their way into fruits and vegetables.  This can change soil pH, increase pests, and even contribute to the release of green house gases.
5
Organic Fertilizers are renewable, sustainable, bio-degradable and environment friendly
Inorganic fertilizers are non-renewable, tend to leach, or filter away from the plants requiring additional applications
