Interesting area today

I was surrounded by industrial and residential land where I was working today. As I headed to one fields, I noticed the sign about remote control locomotives.  As I was working, a short train went by.  There was a caboose in the forward position, and it was occupied.  The locomotive was in the middle and appeared to be empty.  The industry sort of isolated the area and served as a sanctuary for the deer who were not very wary of me at all. They are protected from hunting.

Memorial Day Decorations.

We were working near Coffeen Lake today and decided to check on a geocache I have hidden near Ticky Point Cemetery.  Seven Civil War Veterans are buried there and the graves of all seven still had decorations from Memorial Day.  I thought it was wonderful to remember all of them. The cemetery is very small and hidden in the woods.

River Traffic

Yesterday we were stopped by the drawbridge at Florence as the Erna E Honeycut and then the Mari Lampton passed by.  The Honeycutt was pushing a variety of cargos. barges were loaded with coal, scrap iron, scrap aluminum, rock, iron ore and at least one tanker.  The Mari Lampton was pushing 3 tanker barges.  Not sure of cargo.  The biggest tonage on the river is agriculture products.

Phlox in Bloom

I always think of my mother when i see phlox in bloom.  When I was still in elementary school we were driving home from Sunday School when my mom saw some phlox in bllom.  She decided to stop and dig some up an plant it in the yard. Dad told her i would not grow in the yard because it was a woodland plant.  It is still growing to this day.  It even survived the flood of 1993.

A Remnant From the Past

The corn crib below is located near Girard.  It is really hard to see in the summer because of the large tree growing out of it.  Yes, that tree is in middle and growing out of the crib in several places.
