Field Activity

Field Activity

Weather has been good for a while now, so there is lots of field activity.  I saw someone today using a ditcher with survey grad GPS.  I am sure I could still find corn and soybeans to harvest, but harvest is 99% complete.  Lots of people were doing tillage today.  Also lots of people applying anhydrous ammonia.  Jut a reminder that it is surprising when fall applied nitrogen is reduced to half by planting time.  I saw several people applying fall weed control measures today too.

Pike County Today

I worked in Pike County today.  On the way home there was lot of field work underway.  Applying Anhydrous, disking, and field cultivating were some of the activities.  The honey wagon was near Royal Lakes in Macoupin County.

Field Work Starting

I went to Shelbyville today, but did not see any field work until I got back to Hillsboro.  The ground on the top picture looks like it was too wet when the anhydrous was applied.  The ground being disked across the road looked ok.

Field work today

Field work today

I was able to spend the day in the field today.  Soil was a bit drier than I expected, but there is still water in some low areas.  Farm activities underway in Macoupin, Greene, and Jersey Counties included:

  • Nitrogen Application
  • Conservation Construction Projects
  • Tiling
  • Getting Planters check and ready.
Weather forecast is not great, so it would appear that planting may still be a bit premature.
